Sewing Bee: Behind The Seams | Semi-Final

Next up was the fabulously creative Transformation Challenge– or, in other words, the really enjoyable part of the show– in which the participants were, this week, handed old parachutes and advised to turn them into attractive dresses. The final garments did not disappoint, as each of the candidates tore happily into their parachutes, and switched and shared fabrics to develop four really incredible gowns. Regrettably Rebeccas earthy colour combination saw her put last by Esme, whilst Raphs lovely and strong bridal gown was placed second, and Serenas sensational frilled celebration dress took the show, and took first location.

This week we were taken back to the War Years as the 1940s were the focus of the sewing space, and the semi-finalists kicked things off with Patrick and Esmes Pattern Challenge. Next up was the wonderfully creative Transformation Challenge– or, in other words, the actually enjoyable part of the program– in which the contestants were, this week, handed old parachutes and advised to turn them into attractive dresses. The icon of 1940s style, Diors New Look, was this weeks focus, characterised by an hourglass shape each sewist must create by utilizing masses of material to overemphasize their designs figure. This difficulty saw Serena winning garment of the week this week -and for her very first week ever– with her sensational New Look trouser and jacket combo, whilst Faries failure to hit the New Look quick– or to finish her garment completely in the allocated time– saw her bidding a tearful farewell to her fellow candidates, simply ahead of next weeks final.
